Langley Park Artisan Golf Club

Langley Park Artisan Golf Club

Many Artisan Golf Clubs were formed across the UK in the early to mid-1900s, with the aim of making golf more accessible to local communities. In exchange for reduced membership fees and restricted playing times, Artisan members traditionally helped maintain the course – filling divots, raking bunkers, and assisting the Green Staff in keeping the course to the highest standards. Today, there are around 70 Artisan Golf Clubs in the UK, most associated with prestigious courses.

History of the Artisans at Langley Park

The Langley Park Artisan Golf Club (LPAGC) was founded in 1945 with just nine members. Its first clubroom was a converted builder’s hut, fondly nicknamed “The Hut.” By the club’s 60th anniversary in 2005, the hut was showing its age, and in 2009 it was replaced by the modern facility we use today.

Recently, the building was named “The Taylor Cabin” in honour of J.H. Taylor, five-time Open Champion, course designer of Langley Park, and a founding member of the Artisan Movement.

LPAGC Today

Langley Park Artisans is a club within a club, holding England Golf Union (EGU) status independent from Langley Park Golf Club. Membership is capped at 40 players, with their own internal competitions and matches played against other Artisan clubs across Kent, Surrey, and Sussex.

In recent years, LPAGC has enjoyed notable success, including winning the Surrey Artisans Golf Union 7’s competition twice.

Join the Artisans

The Artisans remain an integral part of life at Langley Park, upholding tradition, camaraderie, and a love of the game.
